Writing forms a parallel strand of my practice rather than an explanation of the visual work. Essays, poems, fragments and correspondence often develop beside images, sometimes preceding them and sometimes continuing questions that the visual form cannot contain. Across them recur questions of identity, memory, absurdity, freedom, attachment, impermanence and the value we construct within experience. Some texts remain independent works. Others gradually enter larger artistic universes. The correspondence with Maurice occupies one such space: somewhere between writing, character, mirror and archive.
